Trauma Informed Yoga with Nicole Byars
Tuesday Jan 02, 2024
Tuesday Jan 02, 2024
There's no version of me that want's to be in a hot, sweaty room with strangers telling me what I'm doing wrong.
Welcome to the Just Dumb Enough Podcast. A show that acknowledges no one is always an expert, by dispelling misconceptions with real experts.
My guest today is Nicole Byars. Nicole owns a yoga studio where she specializes in teaching trauma informed yoga. It's much more about getting back in touch with all of the parts of you that you have numbed over the years, with none of the unpleasant sweat box environments or physical contact with others. I actually think I'm going to try it a bit after having done this interview, because I think we all sort of fall out of sync with ourselves overtime, even if it's just a tiny bit per week, month, or year.

If you can't hear it, I'm sick again! This time with RSV. So I hit the respiratory triad just in time to see 2023 ride into the sunset. Sports Recruiting with Jeff Howell
Monday Dec 25, 2023
Monday Dec 25, 2023
I think my brain still lives in the days when I went to school: where scouts and recruiters showed up to see a high school game and assess talent with their own eyes. But that hasn't been the case for many years, and the fact is that you or your kids might never meet face to face with a scout even in they're invited to an excellent program.
Welcome to the Just Dumb Enough Podcast. A show that acknowledges no one is always an expert, by dispelling misconceptions with real experts.
My guest today is Jeff Howell. Jeff is a man of many hats, and one of those is Athletic Recruiting; specifically at the college level. The information is still valid at all levels, but his bread and butter is working with student athletes attempting to get athletic scholarships. We also break down how to build a highlight reel with no experience and minimal equipment, plus the different NCAA divisions and what that means for a person looking for a school that fits their needs.
( Www.JeffHowell.Me )( www.ncsasports.org )
Let's get scouted!
This is the last episode of the year. I can't believe we're already here. My brain is so unprepared I'm even rhyming apparently. Anyway, the next episode will have a 2023 retrospective including looking back at the last year as a whole. If you want that and another episode: let me know with a quick email to DumbEnoughPodcast@Gmail.Com since I know it's probably not everyone's cup of tea.
The final-ish December rankings are:1. The United States, still led by New York, Oregon, and South Carolina.2. The United Kingdom, led by England but followed closely by Scotland.3. Germany, dropping down a spot but held up by Berlin.4. Canada, with Ontario dominating the other provinces.5. New Zealand, beating Australia in a total upset right at the end.
That's it for this week, this month, and this year! Have a great week, a great weekend, and I'll see you all back here next year for a new episode!Until the next episode, pretty please do all the things to help the show: rate, review, like, and subscribe. Vietnam Veteran with Robin Bartlett
Monday Dec 18, 2023
Monday Dec 18, 2023
The Vietnam War is one of those things in history that I think we all have a general idea about. But, even having family members who served, I still had a lot of misconceptions coming into this expert interview.
Welcome to the Just Dumb Enough Podcast. A show that acknowledges no one is always an expert, by dispelling misconceptions with real experts.
My guest today is Robin Bartlett. Robin was a Lieutenant in the 1st Cav and completed over 50 helicopter based assaults. He shares not only his extreme experiences in combat, but also the changes in life going to Vietnam and coming back from it to a world that wasn't necessarily happy to see the troops return. He's got an excellent book out now if you're interested in more. You might notice also my extra gravely voice in this interview, I was still very sick when we recorded.
Let's welcome these soldiers home!
I know war topics aren't the cheeriest topics, but it's an important reminder to reach out to the people in your life who might otherwise have a very hard time feeling like they can reach out for help.
We're halfway through the last month, so here are the updated rankings:1. The United States, still led by New York, Oregon, and South Carolina.2. Germany. losing ground, but holding the spot.3. Canada, rocketing up the chart thanks to all of the wonderful Ontario listeners.4. The United Kingdom, led by England.5. Australia, with New South Wales responsible for them staying on the list at all.

Marine Sniper with Johnathan Taylor
Monday Dec 11, 2023
Monday Dec 11, 2023
I don't think any career path in military infantry is more associated with killing than a sniper. But how close to reality is that perception?
Welcome to the Just Dumb Enough Podcast. A show that acknowledges no one is always an expert, by dispelling misconceptions with real experts.
My guest today is Johnathan Taylor. JT was a Marine Scout Sniper with multiple tours of duty in the Middle East before shifting to a job working with the Department of Veteran's Affairs. His experiences overseas paint a picture you may not have considered before, because it's not the primary focus of action movies. And maybe that contributes to the attitude that distance from a horrible event is proportional to the amount of mental trauma one develops. But that's a crazy thought to have! Join me as we learn more about this!

Let's find a hidden position!
Thank you all for listening. I know we covered a lot of stuff there, but I hope everyone takes what JT said to heart when he said "trauma is trauma". It really doesn't matter how you developed it, so long as you can remember that it's just as valid for you to have it as anyone else, and that you seek help. "It's not your fault, but it is your responsibility." Especially going through these seasons where having a little helping hand can make all the difference.
Speaking of the season, it's almost halfway through the last month, and things are looking promising behind the scenes. Here are the updated rankings:1. The United States, led by New York, South Carolina, and Oregon.2. Germany. Still battling the US for number one! With Berlin topping the internal leaderboard.3. The United Kingdom, with England now way ahead of the others4. Australia, desperately holding on thanks to New South Wales.5. Canada, almost back from the dead! Led by previous powerhouse Ontario.

Surviving the Wild with EJ Snyder
Monday Dec 04, 2023
Monday Dec 04, 2023
How long would you last in the untamed wilderness if you found yourself completely naked? Personally, I'd last somewhere between dying of dehydration on day 3 and getting eaten by a mountain lion in hour 1. But my expert today has done it for over 200 days without needing to be rescued.
Welcome to the Just Dumb Enough Podcast. A show that acknowledges no one is always an expert, by dispelling misconceptions with real experts.
My guest today is EJ Snyder. EJ may be better recognized by his nickname "Skullcrusher" or from his numerous appearances as a fan favorite on the hit Discovery Channel show: Naked and Afraid where he has the longest total time naked in the wilderness, the most successes, no tap outs, and all as their oldest contestant. He has also trained army rangers and been an instructor for the legendary SERE school. All in all, you will not find a better candidate to discuss how to survive with little to no gear... including clothing. He's literally the #1 ranked survivalist.

Let's try not to die in the woods!
What a guy and with so many cool stories. So what do you think? Do you have a decent shot at survival? Or does your outdoor resume have as many gaps as mine does?
We've made it to the end of the year, though I can't believe how fast we've gotten here. So here are the new, and strange rankings:1. The United States, led by New York, South Carolina, and Texas.2. Germany. Upsetting everything by taking the number two spot and threatening to win against the US for number one! They are led by Berlin3. The United Kingdom, with England maintaining a small lead over Scotland.4. France... tied with Ireland. what a shake up this list has been so far.5. Australia, with Queensland responsible for their place on the list.

Christmas Kindness with Beth Dessen Duffy
Monday Nov 27, 2023
Monday Nov 27, 2023
I know in the states we just had Thanksgiving and everyone is gearing up for Christmas. So what better time to drop a quick episode that embraces the power of random acts of kindness with a Christmas themed twist?
My guest today is Beth Dessen Duffy. Beth, along with help from her family, wrote the book: The Christmas Tree That Changed The World. Yes, she's an author and also a CEO, but most importantly to her: she's a mother. So when she saw kindness missing in the education curriculum, she stepped up to teach a lesson that kindness can be found in the everyday, in ways that incentivize everyone from adults to toddlers.

Let's earn some ornaments!
If you want a really easy act of kindness that will change my whole world, leave a quick review on Apple Podcasts or Spotify. It takes just a couple seconds, helps this show find even more people who will enjoy it, and tells me I'm doing an okay job.
These are the last few days of November, so the rankings look pretty secure:1. The United States, led by Oregon, New York, and Iowa.2. Australia, with Western Australia trying to overtake New South Wales.3. The United Kingdom, with England clearly winning.4. Germany, now led by Hessen. Overtaking Canada in a total upset of the norm.5. Canada, barely hanging in there and led by British Columbia. Everything okay Canada?

Hiking and Backpacking with Ethan Gallogly
Monday Nov 20, 2023
Monday Nov 20, 2023
I used to think it was impressive when I saw people posting pictures from a day hike up their difficult looking local mountain. But my expert todays makes those hikes look trivial and those mountains look like bunny slopes.
Welcome to the Just Dumb Enough Podcast. A show that acknowledges no one is always an expert, by dispelling misconceptions with real experts.
My guest today is Ethan Gallogly. Ethan is one of those guys you'd see with the funny backpacks doing way better than you on any given trail you decide to hike. But he's not just making you look bad on day trails, he's out here hiking places like the John Muir Trail which takes a month to complete if you can even manage that long! He explains the not so secret secrets of an experienced backpacker, along with all of the most common beginner mistakes that I know I would certainly make myself. If you want a fantastic trek experience without all the discomfort, I also highly recommend "The Trail a novel". It's been an incredible success in online sales, Amazon rankings, and at major writing events. The audiobook is incredibly well done, and that's coming from someone who's very picky about his audio. This episode is also brought to you by Magic Mind. That's our lovely new sponsor, but more on that later.( Www.MagicMind.Com/Dumb 56% off Discount Code: DUMB20 )
Let's get on that trail.
What do you think having heard all that? I don't really want to spend all day exercising and all week camping, but I do really want that introspective experience that Ethan talks about.I also want to thank the sponsor who paid for this episode. It's not often I take on paid ad reads, but this company really lined up with my values and didn't give me any form of script. They just said, talk about the product in your voice, which is a total gamble knowing the way I ramble and the dumb things I say constantly. Check that out through the link in the show notes if you think it's at all interesting. The more people who even just look, the more likely they are to keep paying the show.
We're just over halfway through November and the rankings have barely changed at all:1. The United States, led by Iowa, Oregon, and New York.2. Australia, with New South Wales killing it.3. The United Kingdom, with England still out front.4. Canada, with British Columbia now beating Ontario.5. Germany, still led by Bayern. Which no one told me I'm pronouncing wrong.

Acupuncture with Tsao-Lin Moy
Monday Nov 13, 2023
Monday Nov 13, 2023
Given that 25% of all adults have a fear of needles, the choice to be voluntarily stabbed seems like an odd one to many. And while tattoos have become popular in the past decade, acupuncture has existed as a documented medical treatment for over 2,000 years, with other evidence pointing to it's first use over 8,000 years ago!
Welcome to the Just Dumb Enough Podcast. A show that acknowledges no one is always an expert, by dispelling misconceptions with real experts.
My guest today is Tsao Lin Moy. With experience in massage, acupuncture, herbal medicine, and traditional Chinese medicine, Tsao-Lin Moy gives an expert breakdown behind both the spiritual aspects, as well as the hard science of these mystified practices. I'll tell you now it's not as many needles as you're thinking.( Www.IntegrativeHealingArts.Com )
Let's get stabbed to feel better.
I hope you all learned as much as I did. It's a weird side effect of doing these interviews, and maybe the same for you all listening to the shows, that I become way more open to the idea of going in for acupuncture. It's almost ironic that I've never considered it given the fact that I have paid several people to stab my body thousands of times to get tattoos. So maybe I'll find a place nearby that will only stab me 20 times and report back on the experience.
We're almost halfway through November and here are the updated rankings:1. The United States, led by Iowa, Nebraska, and Oregon. I'm not sure why the sudden spike in the Midwest states, but that's super cool!2. Australia, with New South Wales dominating all other combined.3. The United Kingdom, with England still out front.4. Canada, with British Columbia and Ontario tied.5. Germany, battling head to head with New Zealand and led by Bayern. Someone tell me if I'm pronouncing that right.
