Just Dumb Enough Podcast
Being “Just Dumb Enough” is all about being okay with yourself, and the situation you find yourself in, after you bring up a topic in front of a real expert. My name is Colton Petry, I am the Host of the Just Dumb Enough Podcast, and I‘m your professional idiot. The premise of the show is exposing the general listening audience to topics, careers, experiences, or lifestyles they may otherwise know very little about.

Psychedelic Medicine with Jonathan de Potter
Monday Mar 20, 2023
Monday Mar 20, 2023
As our understanding of the world and medicine grows, certain things have to change. Things like leeches, cigarettes, and heroin were all considered to be good for you until we learned how bad they were. And now we're seeing positive therapies from things we used to only see as illegal street drugs.
My guest today is Jonathan de Potter. Jonathan owns the psychedelic, plant-medicine based Behold Retreats. While still a relatively new thing, Jonathan brings a wealth of knowledge from his six years working with the natural medicines most commonly used for Psychedelic Therapies: Psilocybin the magic mushroom, Ayahuasca, and 5-MeO-DMT the God Molecule. It's a wild topic and I think most people in the world are unaware that these things are legally accessible to most everyone. I know my personal knowledge of hallucinogenic drugs, before having this conversation, was basically non-existent. Now I'm curious to see the directions that things are heading in, and just how much good can come from something that millions have gone to prison across the world for previously.

Working Dogs with Bob Bryant
Thursday Mar 16, 2023
Thursday Mar 16, 2023
I think we've all seen or heard of working dogs in some capacity or another. Either alongside police officers, at airports, in warzones, or portrayed doing other extreme jobs in movies. But I was shocked and emotionally devastated to find out that the animals dedicating their lives to a mission are often abandoned when their service is complete.
My guest today is Bob Bryant. Bob is the Co-Founder of Mission K9. Over a decade ago Bob found himself working to create a path forward for military and contract dogs. Many of these animals otherwise have nowhere to go, no family to take them in, not even a way out of a cage in the middle of a battlefield. Today you'll get to learn about the different kinds of service jobs that these pups can get into, the hard lives they live, and a way we can all help to change things for the better.( Www.Missionk9Rescue.Org )This episode does contain some pretty upsetting information about how some of these dogs are treated, but I really believe it's important to hear, and Mission K9 is actively trying to write happier endings for all of these puppers. I just don't want anyone out there with a particularly soft spot for animals to be caught off guard and left distressed because I failed to give a content warning up front.Just one last thing: We've officially made it back to the number one spot for education shows on Podbean. It's an absolutely massive achievement and neither me or the show would be where we are without each and every one of you out there. I tear up, ever so slightly, just thinking about any of you taking the time to listen to this thing I love making. Thank you. From the bottom of my heart, thank you so much. It means more than you could ever know.
Anyway, Let's figure out a better K9 retirement!

Eating Disorders with Jessica Setnick
Monday Mar 13, 2023
Monday Mar 13, 2023
The topic of eating disorders can make people really uncomfortable. It's not something that sees much attention, and according to my expert, it might be so well hidden for a number of reasons, including: shame, trendy diets, an injury, or just because the person engaged in the bad habits doesn't realize they have a problem.
My guest today is Jessica Setnick. Jessica is a dietician with over 25 years of experience, who also regularly consults with other health professionals on a global scale to ensure better education. She's here today to discuss the various and numerous eating disorders, and the impact it has on your life long term.( JessicaSetnick.Com Instagram: @UnderstandNutrition )Also a little shoutout to Podbean, my host site, for once again featuring the show on the front page! It's always a huge honor and I hope I can use this momentum to take back a top education spot as well as grow the audience even more! If you are a new listener, I'm so happy you've found the show! And if you're a long time listener, thank you so much for being with me along this wild and crazy journey. Either way, I hope you'll be around for years to come as I do my very best to make this show into the greatest version of itself!
For now, Let's make sure our diets aren't harming us.

Post-War Life with Coach Nat
Thursday Mar 09, 2023
Thursday Mar 09, 2023
The men and women who serve in the military, for whatever country they might belong to, are an exceptional type of people. The very nature of the job means acknowledging there are people you'll likely never know who want you dead. That's pretty extreme, and yet there's an experience that is just as challenging when they finish their term of service.
My guest today is Natalie Shand-Spellman. Coach Nat, as she likes to be called, is a retired United States Marine. She's here to talk about her time in the military, the lack of transition coming out of her service, feeling broken and left without identity, how she found her way through, and what civilians don't seen going on. She now helps veterans find their place in everyday society once the mission is over.
Let's recognize our veterans.

A Wrongful Conviction with Jean Adam
Monday Mar 06, 2023
Monday Mar 06, 2023
I'd like to think that if I were wrongfully arrested for a crime, I'd also be found innocent by a thorough justice system. But my expert today shows that is not always the case, by sharing a truly one sided story of corruption in our courts that stripped the freedoms of an innocent woman..
My guest today is Jean Adam. Jean is a film maker and justice advocate, recently releasing his documentary "Finding Betty" on multiple streaming platforms. His movie walks through the case of Betty Wilson, an Alabama woman wrongfully convicted of murder back in 1992 and still incarcerated to this day. It shows the usage of fake evidence, unreliable witnesses, and other grossly inhumane practices, all to ensure that this woman spends the rest of her life behind bars for outdated racism as well as sheer laziness. It's a fascinating case that makes no sense once you see past the theater performance the prosecution is putting on. I watched the documentary myself to help prep for the interview, but here's some basics for those who've never heard of it:
In 1992 Betty and her twin sister Peggy are arrested for conspiracy to commit murder. A man, James White, confessed to the murder saying that he was hired and assisted in the crime by the sisters. The sisters are immediately taken into custody, shipped to different counties for separate trials, and Betty is held in solitary confinement for over 9 months awaiting trial. Keep in mind the current guidelines for major prisons with convicted offenders is 15 days! Anything beyond that is acknowledge to have lasting effects on a persons mental and physical health. And she was exposed to this for most of a year while waiting for a trial that has no evidence connecting either sister to this man in a meaningful way. No eye witnesses, no money trial, no DNA, no fibers or even blood stains. They eventually go to trial and the mentally ill homeless man, who claims to have committed the murder, proceeds to change his official statement five times under police direction so that it bypasses the alibis the sisters otherwise have. They present a murder weapon that the coroner confirms could not have caused the injuries, don't account for any of the inconsistencies, utilize a faked call log to establish any connection, and spend most of their time in court focusing on attacking Betty's character by addressing the open marriage she publicly shared with her husband. Because! wait for it... It involved a black man. Why's that important to the case? Because the county Betty's trial is taking place in is home of the KKK.And what of her sister Peggy? Well, Peggy was tried in a less racist area with no fake evidence and was immediately acquitted. James White even came out later and tried to say he lied about all of it. The prosecution said that if he tried to do that, they would revoke his 7 year sentence and instead pursue the death penalty. It's so much craziness, but you didn't come here to hear me, so it's time to move on.
Let's get into that True Crime category!

First week of March and here are the rankings:1. The United States, with Texas, Oregon, and New York as top states.2. The United Kingdom.3. Ireland. Welcome to the top 3 with some impressive numbers that almost beat the UK.4. Australia, led by the Northern Territory for (I think) the first time.5. Canada, with British Columbia top province.

Relaunching Yourself with Hilary DeCesare
Thursday Mar 02, 2023
Thursday Mar 02, 2023
We've all wanted to restart something at some point. I'm into a situation myself where I wish had a do over button, and could make entirely different decisions that would alter my life path drastically. But there is no magic button to press. Instead what we can do is make a new start. Scrap the old chapters and just start a new book about our life from this moment on.
My guest today is Hilary DeCesare. Hilary is the founder and CEO of the Relaunch Co, which is exactly what it sounds like: A company specializing in helping people re-launch a new life for themselves on a big or small scale. She's here today to share how we can make any moment better by tuning into our internal radio.I also get a bit more personal in this episode than I've ever gotten. It's a little uncomfortable, and I try not to do it in the show just for the sake of staying a relatable interview perspective for the audience. I hope it doesn't bother anyone too much, but feel free to let me know what you think. DumbEnoughPodcast@Gmail.Com There's also a bit of an echo/delay that creeps in a couple times with my voice. I'm not sure what that even was from, but it's very minimal.
Let's prep that launch pad!www.therelaunchco.com

Ghost Hunting with Jason Hassler
Monday Feb 27, 2023
Monday Feb 27, 2023
It feels like it's been a while since I've covered anything in the weirder categories on the show. So today my expert is walking us through how you investigate a haunted location!
My guest today is Jason Hassler. Jason is the Director of Big River Paranormal, with it's home right here in Oregon near me. His team responds to requests from concerned home owners and curious businesses, all in the name of quality investigation. Sometimes there's a perfectly reasonable explanation behind the experience, and sometimes... you've got a genuine haunting. He also acknowledges some people are crazy or too wrapped up in paranormal TV, and that can paint the whole community in a somewhat unfavorable light.
Let's hunt ghosts!

Last day of February, here are the final rankings:1. The United States, with Texas, Oregon, and California as top states.2. The United Kingdom, holding that spot tight.3. Canada, shooting back up the chart with Ontario dominating top province.4. Australia, just a single listener shy of beating Canada, and led by Victoria.5. Sweden, with Dalarna barely keeping it's lead.

Concierge Medicine with Dr. Robin Hall
Thursday Feb 23, 2023
Thursday Feb 23, 2023
The only concierge I knew of before this interview was the kind you'd have at a nice hotel. Turns out there are also direct to patient doctors, who tailor their office and styles to fit your unique care and needs.
My guest today is Dr. Robin Hall. Robin is the now retired founder of a concierge medical practice with over 30 years of total practice. The big draw in these practices is to get away from only going to the doctor when you're sick, instead going regularly: receiving education and real time adjustments based on how things are going with you.It does have a distinctly higher cost. But, as we'll hear, it weirdly balances out with standard insurance rates if you are the average person who perhaps just needs insurance for an emergency, and wants more frequent care from a primary physician.
Let's see if personalized doctors fit our lifestyles
