Saving Music with Vincent James
Wednesday Sep 20, 2023
Wednesday Sep 20, 2023
When was the last time you held a musical instrument? Some would say recently, but I'd bet for most of us it has been quite a while. Now, did you know that there are adult friendly instrument petting zoos?
Welcome to the Just Dumb Enough Podcast. A show that acknowledges no one is always an expert, by dispelling misconceptions with real experts.
My guest today is Vincent James. Vincent is Co-Founder of Keep Music Alive, a international non-profit focused on music education and advocacy. They partner with over 1,200 music schools and stores to provide free lessons multiple times per year, and are backed by such famous artists as: Jack Black, Julie Andrews, Vanessa Williams, Richie Sambora, Kenny Loggins, and many more.
The closest of these events is "Kids Music Day" happening between September 29th and October 8th of this year, which is next week and the week after.( Www.KeepMusicAlive.Org )Also, it kind of snuck up on me that this show is turning 2 years old next week... That's really hard for me to imagine, because time has seemed to just fly by. There's so much I've done with the show, and still so much more I want to do. But I figure we'll make next week a special, guest-free episode like I did with the 1 year. Feel free to send your thoughts, questions, or feelings to DumbEnoughPodcast@Gmail.Com and maybe I'll be reading them on air as we celebrate.
But for now, Let's save music!
I've always wanted to gain some real musical skill, so maybe I'll see some of you out at the next public event. Just promise not to judge me to hard when you see how little talent I have.
We're over halfway through September and the rankings have stabilized a little more:1. The United States, led by New York, Oregon, and California.2. The United Kingdom, just barely led by Scotland3. Australia, with New South Wales still in the lead.4. India.5. Ontario, Canada. Barely keeping their place in the top 5.
That's it for this week! Have a great week I'll see you all back here for the next episode!Until the next episode, please do all the things to help the show: rate, review, like, and subscribe. Sobriety isn’t Perfection with Dana Killion
Wednesday Sep 13, 2023
Wednesday Sep 13, 2023
It wasn't until speaking with my expert today that I realized intervention type therapies require the sober people to relive their worst experiences with a loved one, without being offered any help in return. It's honestly so one sided that I have a hard time even coming up with a clever analogy.
My guest today is Dana Killion. Dana was married to an severe addict for 25 years before he finally walked the road to recovery. But that didn't solve all of their problems. It's no surprise that addiction leads to lying, stealing, or many other unsavory behaviors. However, no amount of sobriety is going to make those things unhappen. Listen along as we explore how sobriety can break a relationship or a partner.( Www.DanaKillion.Com )
Let's make sure we look after ourselves.
This was kind of an interesting flip the script episode, because coming into the conversation I would have said you need to go above and beyond to help someone struggling with something as awful as addiction. But now I wonder if we've ever really done recovery in the right way, or if we've just managed to get lucky somehow.
It's been an strange month, and the rankings are still shaking up day to day:1. The United States, desperately struggling to regain this top spot. The US is led by Oregon, New York, and Texas.2. The United Kingdom, only dropping down to second by a small margin! The UK is led by Scotland3. Australia. With New South Wales leading the charge back to the top 3.4. Ontario, Canada.5. India, barely holding on against some stiff competition.
That's it for this week! Have a great week I'll see you all back here for the next episode!Until the next episode, please do all the things to help the show: rate, review, like, and subscribe. Personal Empowerment with Christina Ramirez
Wednesday Sep 06, 2023
Wednesday Sep 06, 2023
This isn't the first episode we've talked about bettering yourself in, but we're coming at it from a whole new angle: embracing discomfort. Before you protest, I'm fully aware that it doesn't sound like an awesome time. But the truth is that you're probably already uncomfortable. We all struggle from time to time with big and small things, but my expert today shares why it's a mistake to let that define your current moment in life.
My guest today is Christina Ramirez. Christina wasn't always the serial entrepreneur and business coach that she is now. Once upon a time she was a mother just trying to make the work/life balance thing happen. But when she found herself missing important events in her children's lives, she knew she needed to change everything to make her life work for her. She's here today to share how we can address our everyday discomforts from an empowering perspective.( Www.EmpoweredByDiscomfort.Com )
Let's conquer our challenges one at a time.
I don't know why censoring things makes me giggle like a child, but I love it. That's not even the take away from the episode, I just really wanted to share how bleeping certain little words brings me perhaps too much joy.Anyway... I hope you all feel just a little happier, or have been distracted from the issues, and now more prepared to face them with a shrug so you can get back to the things that make you feel good.
It's a new month, but not a fresh week, so these shaken up rankings are not a mistake:1. The United Kingdom, In one of the few times I've seen a country upset the US for 1st place! The UK is led by Scotland2. The United States, led by Texas and Oregon.3. India, making a return after some time away.4. Hong Kong, staying on the leaderboard.5. Ukraine. Welcome back, it's been a while since we've seen you in the top 5!
That's it for this week! Have a great week I'll see you all back here for the next episode!Until the next episode, please do all the things to help the show: rate, review, like, and subscribe. A Doctor Shortage with Dr. Ann Hester
Wednesday Aug 30, 2023
Wednesday Aug 30, 2023
180,000 doctors... That's not how many are currently practicing, it's how many we'll be short in less time that it takes a child to go from elementary school to high school. It's a shocking number, especially when so many of us already feel like we aren't getting adequate care now.
My guest today is Doctor Ann Hester. Dr. Hester has roughly 30 years of experience both in medical practice, and in empowering patients to get the most out of the very confusing and often one sided system that we have to work through. How can you be a better patient? How can you make sure your primary care physician hears your concerns? How can you skip all the expensive procedures and still root out the problem? All this and more in the next half hour.
Let's not be late to our doctor's appointment today.
Not to be alarmist, because there's no point in panicking now, but the impact of this shortage could become quite a challenge that we'll all have to overcome one day. So, take the time to figure our your role as a patient today. Ann Just gave a very easy path for you to do so, and it could protect not only you, but the next generation as well.
August is essentially over, already? And here are the last rankings:1. The United States, rounding out this month led by Oregon, California, and New Jersey.2. Hong Kong, Overtaking the UK and stealing the elusive number 2 spot.3. The United Kingdom, holding that lead over Canada and just barely led by England.4. Ontario, Canada.5. Australia, with New South Wales taking a last minute lead!
That's it for this week! Have a great week and month and I'll see you all back here for the next episode!Until the next episode, please do all the things to help the show: rate, review, like, and subscribe. Diamonds with Sonny Blaze
Tuesday Aug 22, 2023
Tuesday Aug 22, 2023
A little while back, or what feels like just a little while ago, we talked about costume jewelry and the possibilities you could achieve on the cheap. But what if you want something much nicer? What if it's an engagement ring or a commemorative piece you want to withstand the test of time? That's when you need to talk to someone like my expert today.
My guest today is Sonny Blaze. Sonny is a designer of some of the finest jewelry to every grace A-list carpets. From rings to necklaces, and off into categories you've never considered, Sonny has done it all in style without compromise. He's here today to inform all of us what it is we should be looking for in the most precious of minerals, diamonds. Really, the choice goes beyond a simple big or small. Do you want natural or synthetic? Clear or colored? And how can you buy it while being environmentally conscious, social responsible, and still not decimating your bank account? All that and more, coming right up!
Let's get rocked!
I really hope this saves someone out there a truly ridiculous amount of time and money. Like, buy a synthetic diamond the size of a finger and then also buy your, hopefully, favorite podcaster lunch! I know I'll sure appreciate it, even if the fiancé-to-be doesn't!
August is over half way gone already and here's some updated rankings:1. The United States, now led by Oregon, New Jersey, and California.2. The United Kingdom, overtaking Canada on the way to number 2 and led by England.3. Hong Kong, Showing up in a big way all of the sudden! Welcome to the top 3 HK!4. Ontario, Canada.5. Australia, barely holding onto a top spot all thanks to Queensland.

Japanese American Internment Camps with John Suzuki
Sunday Aug 13, 2023
Sunday Aug 13, 2023
Most people are at least vaguely familiar with the inhuman treatment that happened inside concentration camps during World War 2. The thing most people have never heard, is that Germany was not the only country that engaged in collecting and imprisoning specific ethnic groups. In fact, the one we are talking about today was claiming to be the most freedom forward place on Earth while also building these camps in bleached desert wastelands where the weather alone could kill... The United States of America.
My guest today is John Suzuki. John is the author of the Amazon best selling book "American Grit". It details stories from a shameful time in American history, and the incredible people that rose to greatness in spite of it. John does a great job breaking down the details and easily secured a place as one of my favorite guests, with a fascinating topic that for obvious reasons has been largely buried. This covers everything from the aftershock of Pearl Harbor, to Executive Order 9066, the 442nd Regimental Combat Team, war heroes like Shiro Kashino, and what life was like for those who were imprisoned after the fighting was all over.
( Www.JohnSuzuki.Com )For those that listened last episode, you'll know I'm padding out the new studio space and still had a little echo when I did this interview. But it should be all better in the future, and honestly isn't that noticeable even to me on this one.
Let's learn America's dirty secret.
And thank you for listening. I really think it's time we start talking about these stains on our collective pasts. Only by being fully aware of who we are and what we've done, will we be able to build a brighter future with a fuller picture. Make sure you're doing your part to at least make others aware and give them the chance to learn through interviews like this one.
August has continued moving forward despite my pleas for it to stop, so we've got updated rankings:1. The United States, now led by New Jersey, Michigan and Oregon.2. Ontario, Canada. Which is how I'll be refering to it until we get some competition again.3. The United Kingdom, with England passing Scotland for the top spot.4. Australia, led back to the top 5 by New South Wales.5. Columbia! Welcome to the top 5 for the first time Columbia!
That's it for this week! Have a great weekend and I'll see you all back here for the next episode!Until the next episode, please do all the things to help the show: rate, review, like, and subscribe. Stretching with Diane Cherico
Friday Aug 04, 2023
Friday Aug 04, 2023
When this show started, I found myself fascinated with all the things we think we know, but still get wrong. Sure, it can be as complex as psychology, but it can also be as simple as stretching.
My guest today is Diane Cherico. Diane started working in the Massage and Chiro-therapy field 24 years ago and along the way found Active Isolated Stretching. It was one of those innocuous things she didn't give much though to. Could stretching really be the key to alleviating work related chronic pain? Is all that warm up stuff we half-heartedly did in gym class actually the reason we bounced back so fast? She gives lots of insight about getting into the massage field, as well as a couple simple tricks you can try at home to relieve things like: Headaches, neck pain, upper or lower back pain, really all kinds of things.Lastly I have to apologize about the audio on my side. I just moved into yet another new studio space and it's entirely vacant, so it echoes quite a lot. I've tried to cut it down, and hopefully you won't even notice, but I want to assure you it is not the new normal.
Let's finally stretch correctly!
Don't be afraid to rewind so you can easily listen to those stretching instructions again. A little bit now could save you a whole lot of pain later.
It's a new month, so we've got new rankings:1. The United States, led by Michigan and Ohio, but actually very close to being dethroned by-2. The United Kingdom, with Scotland up at the top.3. Canada, with Ontario unsurprisingly leading.4. Pakistan... Wait, really? Welcome to the top 5 Pakistan!5. South Africa. Back after quite a long time away it seems

Dream Homes with Julie Laughton
Friday Jul 28, 2023
Friday Jul 28, 2023
A dream home is a funny concept. It's easy to critique these custom houses as being imperfect, and yet we each build a list of must haves in our mind that barely amount to a sensible structure ourselves. So where is the point we leave reality and enter daydream?
My guest today is Julie Laughton. Julie has been working in the architecture and home design world for 40 years. She now runs her own company and has a whole briefcase full of job titles that encompass nearly everything you could need when building a house from the ground up. Her primary contracts are building dream homes from scratch. She's here today to impart wisdom about the process, tips to get it done smoothly, and nightmares to avoid.Heads up about the audio quality: Julie was in between work sites and actually did the interview from her vehicle on her phone. I've tried to clean it up as much as I can, but don't come into this one expecting studio quality audio from our expert today. ( Www.JulieLaughton.Com )
Let's build the houses we dream of for prices that work!
Well hopefully that audio wasn't too much for anyone. I'm going to make a more conscious effort in the future to ensure each guest has true recording equipment.
We are somehow already at the end of July, so here are the ranking results:1. The United States, with Texas, Oregon, and Virginia as the top states.2. Canada, with Ontario maintaining the very top spot.3. The United Kingdom, with England up at the top.4. Australia, with New South Wales using the last days to firmly beat Victoria.5. Egypt, just barely hanging on until the end.
