Let's not play pretend here; with power comes an abuse of that power. It doesn't need to be gambling on human suffering for personal profit, it can be as simple as suggesting you should be seated first or get a discount just because you have a specific job. If you've earned respect, those things might just happen. But as my expert today explains, asking for that special treatment may not be simply immoral, but actually illegal.
My guest today is Debbie Peterson. Debbie was the first directly elected, female mayor of Grover Beach, California, and is the author of "The Happiest Corruption: Sleaze, Lies, and Suicide". The title alone should hook you enough to listen to this episode if nothing else.
An important note: This episode relates to local, smaller government. It's not about how messed up our congress and senate can be. I'll have to find a different guest for that topic, as well as how governments function in other countries.

Also, sorry for the less clean than normal audio on my end. This new studio space is turning out to be a lot more work than I had originally thought it would be. Nevertheless! I'm fixing it and it shouldn't give us more issues going forward.
This is a lofty goal, but Let's end government corruption!
