Just Dumb Enough Podcast
Being “Just Dumb Enough” is all about being okay with yourself, and the situation you find yourself in, after you bring up a topic in front of a real expert. My name is Colton Petry, I am the Host of the Just Dumb Enough Podcast, and I‘m your professional idiot. The premise of the show is exposing the general listening audience to topics, careers, experiences, or lifestyles they may otherwise know very little about.

Voter Advocacy with Sam Daley-Harris
Nothing gets people quite as heated as elections, be it a good or bad outcome. But this isn't an isolated American experience, as so many around me might assume. This year over 64 countries and around 2 billion people will have been eligible to take part in an election of some kind.
Welcome to the Just Dumb Enough Podcast. A show that acknowledges no one is always an expert, by dispelling misconceptions with real experts.
My guest today is Sam Daley-Harris. Sam has been lobbying for voter advocacy for over four decades, and loves to educate on how we can do better than electing a total stranger to represent us with no supervision. He'll teach how to ask for what you want, get meetings with these important people, and make sure your desires aren't drowned out by so much social noise.

Let's have a say again.
Remember the difference between transactional advocacy and transformational advocacy. Don't just sign a form and hope for the best, make your voice heard.

Emotional Eating with Kay Loughrey
Tuesday Nov 12, 2024
Tuesday Nov 12, 2024
Long ago were the days when most people had to farm just so that they could eat, and that kicked off the start of a very rough trade-off. Now, many areas of the world have an abundance of food that is mass produced, packed with preservatives and antibiotics, and engineered to be addictive to our taste buds. And while our available calories to consume has gone way up, our physical activity has dropped way down.
Welcome to the Just Dumb Enough Podcast. A show that acknowledges no one is always an expert, by dispelling misconceptions with real experts.
My guest today is Kay Loughrey. Kay has four decades of experience as a nutritionist, and struggled with food the same way many people do. She's here today to explain just how bad our eating has gotten, the impact it has on our lives, and how we can fix it without the generalized suffering of niche diets.
( Www.SweetLifeWellness.Com ) ( https://a.co/d/aUbqICw will take you to: Www.Amazon.Com "A Happy Life At A Healthy Weight" )
Let's save the rest of that ice cream for later.
What do you think? If you could ban three foods: What would they be? Drop those answers in the comments or send them to DumbEnoughPodcast@Gmail.Com.

Stories to Guide Children with Ken Rohlf
Monday Nov 04, 2024
Monday Nov 04, 2024
There are so many milestones that occur in every child's life, and so many parents who are unsure how to approach heavy topics with their little ones. So I brought in an expert who will hopefully be the next wave of Dr. Seuss stories.
Welcome to the Just Dumb Enough Podcast. A show that acknowledges no one is always an expert, by dispelling misconceptions with real experts.
My guest today is Ken Rohlf. Ken went from lawyer to children's book author after he realized how hard it would be to talk about his wife, who had passed, with his unborn grandson. I think everyone has these people in their life; the people you wish would be around to meet your kids, grandkids, nieces, nephews, etc. But Ken saw the need to ease these discussions, and now works on children's books that work just as well for the adult reading them. This will also be the last interview with the sad backdrop for a little while. I just needed to get these out in order to help myself move on and manage my grief in some way.
( Www.KenRohlfBooks.Com ) ( https://a.co/d/9idE3PZ will take you to: Www.Amazon.Com "Christmas Sun: A Beautiful Tradition to Remember Grandma" )
Let's remember those who went before us.
I always feel bad when I make a guest cry, but I think that level of sincerity and emotion is something that we all deeply crave out in the real world. Don't be afraid to be more open, because that's the only way anyone will ever get to know the real you.
In other news... November is now here, and the ranking are as follows:
1. The United States, with Texas, Illinois, and North Carolina at the very top! 2. Scotland of the United Kingdom, dethroning England a bit. 3. Australia, with Western Australia out front. Besties in the Westies, or so I've been told. 4. Canada, with British Columbia and Ontario all tied up. 5. Ghana, just leading India.
That's it for this week! Have a great week, a great weekend, and I'll see you all back here next week for another new episode! Becoming a Widow with Three Widows
Monday Oct 28, 2024
Monday Oct 28, 2024
*Trigger Warning: Death* Saturday, October 26th, my father was pronounced dead. It was a sudden loss, and it has shaken my family profoundly. Having a history as a paramedic, I know that my way to approach grief is through working without rest. It's not healthy, and I don't recommend it for others, but it's what works for me. This episode wasn't intended to be released for several more weeks, but the content and the massages gave me a gift: A way to help my mother through this hard time. I know you're listening Mom, and I love you.
The loss of your spouse is almost unthinkable for most people, and based on the numbers: It’s far more likely to happen to women.
Welcome to the Just Dumb Enough Podcast. A show that acknowledges no one is always an expert, by dispelling misconceptions with real experts.
My guests today are Karen Smith-Racicot, Rebecca LeChance, and Karen Justice. All three of these women lost their husbands in different ways, and have found their new lives in very different ways. You would expect this to be a universal experience, since half of all life-long relationships will experience it. However, It is multi-faceted, and there will never be a one-size-fits-all approach to preparing for it, or surviving the aftermath undaunted. Keep yourselves open to the ideas these wonderful women share, and prepare for the unthinkable with the hope that it will never be needed.

Let's work through our losses.
Editing this episode and transcribing the lessons really helped me rationalize the loss. I also highly recommend the interview Matthew Stapley and I did about Grief and Grieving if you are in the same situation ( https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/grief-grieving-with-matthew-stapley/id1588060916?i=1000553958384 ). Take care everyone, and forgive me for not wanting to add a ranking or plug to the end of this episode; it just doesn't feel right. I'll be back next week. Stay Dumb. DumbEnoughPodcast@Gmail.Com

Construction Forensics with Samuel Bentil
Monday Oct 21, 2024
Monday Oct 21, 2024
I don't know that I've ever hear the words "Forensic" and "Construction" used in the same sentence, outside of maybe "The forensic team is inspecting the murder at the construction site." And yet, this topic is quite passive, with no murder that I heard about.
Welcome to the Just Dumb Enough Podcast. A show that acknowledges no one is always an expert, by dispelling misconceptions with real experts.
My guest today is Samuel Bentil. Samuel is a construction dispute claims consultant, a job I honestly never knew existed until our interview. In short his job is to make sure that neither the client, nor the contractor is engaging in any shady practices to make extra money. That's commonly a concern for most people having their homes built, but becomes much more serious when the project's price is measured in billions of dollars and not thousands.Samuel also have a super fun accent that I enjoy, and he hails from our regular top 5 country: Ghana
( Www.MagicMind.Com/Dumb20 ) ( Www.AvoidConstructionDisputes.Com ) ( Www.SamuelKBentil.Com ) ( Search "Samuel Bentil" on: Www.Amazon.Com )
Let's communicate about costs.
I've seen far too many of these situations personally, and that's without ever working on any huge budget constructions. So for everyone's sake, I hope Samuel and his peers can help iron out the issues.
In other news, October is ongoing, and the ranking are as follows:
1. The United States, with California, Illinois, and Texas in the lead. 2. England of the United Kingdom. 3. Australia, with New South Wales now leading Queensland for first. 4. Ghana. 5. Canada, with Ontario at the top.

Climate Change with Alan McGowan
Monday Oct 14, 2024
Monday Oct 14, 2024
What's spookier than the slow death of the planet we live on? I'm not sure, but luckily our expert today has some suggestions to help us avoid the downward spiral any further.
Welcome to the Just Dumb Enough Podcast. A show that acknowledges no one is always an expert, by dispelling misconceptions with real experts.
My guest today is Alan McGowan. Alan is an engineer and professor with over four decades of experience in the fields of climate change, renewable energy, and ecology. He's here to tell us what is actually changing, what we can do, and how we could prioritize for a better and brighter future.
( Www.MagicMind.Com/Dumb20 ) ( McGowanA@NewSchool.Edu )
Let's give ourselves some shade!
Now that we've talked about it, I really need these solar cells over highways and parking lots. My oh-so-pale skin hates long drives in the direct sun.
In other news, October is ongoing, and the ranking are as follows:
1. The United States, with California, Illinois, and Oregon still at a lead. 2. England of the United Kingdom. 3. Australia, with Queensland and Victoria now tied for first. 4. Canada, with Ontario still just barely ahead of British Columbia. 5. Ghana, just over Ireland.

Pitching Ideas with Margot Black
Monday Oct 07, 2024
Monday Oct 07, 2024
We all have those ideas that we want to see come to life: Whether it's stories for an imaginative audience, or increasing our year end sales. But so often that comes with the sharp sting of rejection, and our enthusiasm takes a real hit.
Welcome to the Just Dumb Enough Podcast. A show that acknowledges no one is always an expert, by dispelling misconceptions with real experts.
My guest today is Margot Black. From stage and screen, to everyday bakery, Margot aims to help the average person pitch better. It's a quick and easy episode, teaching you the does and don'ts of trying to communicate and persuade others.
( Www.MagicMind.Com/Dumb20 ) ( Www.BlackInkPR.Com ) ( Www.MargotBlack.Com ) ( https://a.co/d/4iWkeEz will take you to: Www.Amazon.Com "Life's a Pitch: How To Win What You Want In Business and in Life" )
Let's figure out a way to make this happen.
There really is so much value in seeing the ways in which people think. We often get too locked in our own head and forget to see the perspective and context. Looking back, I can see plenty of times where the confusion, between where I was and where they were, led to a disagreement.
In other news, Spooky season of October is here, and the ranking are anything but ghoulish:
1. The United States, with California, Illinois, and Oregon at a narrow lead. 2. Australia, with Queensland, Capital Territory, Victoria, and Western Australia all tied somehow. 3. England of the United Kingdom. 4. Canada, with Ontario just barely ahead of British Columbia. 5. Ghana!
That's it for this week! Have a great week, a great weekend, and I'll see you all back here next week for another new episode! Top 10 Downloaded of Year 3
Tuesday Oct 01, 2024
Tuesday Oct 01, 2024
I did a most downloaded episode I believe for year 2, an everyone seemed to really enjoy it including me. So we're doing it again as a year 3 episode!
As with the last compilation I made, these are not necessarily my favorite episodes of the year: They are the most downloaded of the year. I think the top 3 even broke download records, so it's clear that people enjoyed them.
This is a great way to peruse topics you may have otherwise overlooked or ignored, or great starting points if you're new to the show.
I'm also super proud to say that this has been a massive year of growth with numbers doubling and tripling in most cases, along with an astounding 160 country reach and numerous top rankings in multiple countries and on several platforms.
Starting us off at number 10 is:
Bad Bosses with Jennifer Nash. We originally arranged this interview to talk about good bosses, but you all in the audience quickly decided you wanted it to be about the worst of the worst, and what's wrong with them.
I'll also throw in a little (static) so you know there's a clean little cut in the audio segments.
I can see why people found that episode a bit cathartic, but it was followed up with an interview that had most people concerned at the beginning. It was a reply to a tech specialist, done and voiced entirely by AI. At #9: The AI Reply with ChatGPT and ElevenLabs
The speaking ability of computer entities quickly found its way deeper into the minds of the audience; as we dove into the human speaking ability in #8 Polyglot Means Multilingual with Joel Dubin
But with these new languages, how were we going to find the money to travel to all these wonderful places? That's where we get #7: Becoming Wealthy with Bryan Kuderna
Needless to say: All these new skills left us all a bit stressed out. Luckily, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder came in to save the day at #6: OCD with Chris Mason
That puts OCD into perspective, but what about the ever increasing need to know about Autism? For this we turn to #5: Life with Autism with Sam Mitchell
Autism can be an isolating experience, and #4 highlighted that all of life can be lonely if done wrong. This is: Loneliness with Shila Patel
Okay… So we don't want to be lonely, right? Then why not find someone or something we cannot live without? Turns out that leads us to #3: Codependency with Dr. Sarah Michaud
Alright! So we can't be lonely, AND we can't be codependent… Is there anything else to look out for, Colton? Yes, there is, my lovely audience member; it's #2: Narcissistic Personality Disorder with Danu Morrigan
Wow… with such a heavy list, surely the number one must have been an all encompassing downer, right?
No! In fact, #1 was almost exclusively uplifting: Providing valuable insights to how you can find passion and purpose in your life right now! It's Vitamin P with Corey Poirier
Listener questions?:
“Do you plan to focus on any topics more in the future?” -Mikah
Rocky asks, "You had a recent announcement about a medical situation. Can you tell us more?"
“How's listenership?” - Deborah
“Did something happen to make you happier?” - Odila
Favorite Reviews or Emails:
“Dear JDE podcast,
Thank you for releasing such unique and fascinating content. Not being largely into podcasts, I find myself oddly intrigued with what the next episode will dive into.
Just a few weeks ago I listened to one where you had a sports related guest, they mentioned how physical activity such as running helps the mind from overthinking. Because you're so physically exhausted, you can't think deep enough to get overwhelmed in the moment. Being the fool I am. I translated this to intensely jogging on a break later that night to the point of being uncomfortable. Later, a co-worker was kind enough to invite me on their evening strolls and that was a much more enjoyable distraction.
Sincerely, another dumb fan.”
“Hello! Huge fan of the show, just wanted to send some. Compliments your way. Live, laugh, love babes! Cheers!” - Leo Velour
I love hearing from listeners, even if it's just for them to say hey or share a moment.
Now for just a little ego boost, let's look at some public reviews of the show:
“I love this podcast. I always learn something. I've been listening for some time now and was fortunate to be a guest last year. Keep up the good work, Colton.” - Dr. Robin Hall
“Colton Petry's Just dumb enough. Podcast is, of course, quite smart. All of his shows and guests are wide-ranging and equally fascinating. I find most shows with an international following such as this one. Are the ones to stalk. This one's a keeper.” -Best Things Ever
“Colton ain't no dummy, He's a masterful interviewer who creates the best conversations that you just don't want to end.” - Jodi
Top 10 Countries:
United States, led by New York, Oregon, California, Texas, and Illinois.
England and Scotland of the United Kingdom.
Australia’s own New South Wales and Victoria.
Canada, with Ontario and British Columbia out front.
Ghana, making a huge statement as a regular top 5 this year!
New Zealand
Ireland
Germany
South Africa
India
All 10 has routine time in the top of their charts, there was only about a 2% difference between #6 and #10, and #11 was even closer.
Thank you all again for hanging out with me and my wonderfully dumb show for another year. I hope to have even more fun topics and wild knowledge for you in Year 4!
That's it for this week! Have a great week, a great weekend, and I'll see you all back here next week for another new episode!
